“Paradise of Liars”-Forgery of Status
“Drulio was banished form the capital and he found the lost city ‘Edregon’ surmount
himself as the king. Then another who was also banished by name Madrio found the city and was named the Prime minister of Edregon by Drulio. Then the rest subjects who came to the town were lords and ladie”.
SCENE ONE
ACT (I) ONE
ENTERS DRUILIO THROUGH THE GATES OF THE LOST BERBARIAN CITY.
DRULIO
[Talks to himself waterfall dropping down and birds chirping]
What place is this I must have wondered to the wrong paths or not. O look, heavens there is a palace.
DRULIO CONT’D.
[Points at the fruits in the tree and acts in passion of surprise]
Such beauty hidden in the belly of the mountains, I must be in Eldorado I must. My banish was no banish at all, I have been banished into paradise. I am welcome by singing birds they announce my entrance with keen songs.
DRULIO CONT’D.
[Picks a berry from the ground, moves around in surprise]
I must marvel at all this, if my fate be short lived, I will die in peace. Look I must be in my childhood dreams, a pickle berry in full blossom and the apple tree.
DRULIO
[Opening his two arms to the heavens]
I breath this free air and I like I have never breathed before, or to eat this fruit and my life like I have lived hungry everyday.
DRULIO
[Lies on the long grass of many butterflies]
O even the grasses do not itch the skin, tender as wool and fine as silk. Who will not fall in love in such harmony of man and nature?
DRULIO.
(Stood and went to the waterfall drinks and jumps in the water)
O I am drowned o relief, I am no longer heavy. I am light how I weigh I fear the wind will carry me away. Just like the flowers here that are not wild as the man what sow them.
DRULIO.
[Sees the reflection of the heavens on the water, the birds and even the sun]
O the heavens’ reflect on the smiling waters. ‘tis in place of the black raven smoke that clouds the face of the heavens. Smokes from the fields of war churning of a thousand burning corpse and the scavengers, a black scar on the skies.
DRULIO
[Acts in a an angry manner]
I forbid to cast my thoughts back to my banishers, cursed be their black hearts and their tax laws and lands. Of what vain do I vent on poor grasses and trees that have no course in my worries.
DRULIO
[Became calm to his reserve]
It is a sin to be angry in a place of peace, I have sinned and I am wrong. I owe to smile in gratefulness of this artificial freedom.
DRULIO
[Looking philosophical]
How I hate man in royalty but love royalty in man. I love the man in the king and hate the laws in him. Is there no setting them apart?
DRULIO.
[Echo’s his voice from the bottom of the waterfall]
Or even the dead trees that wither and denied us shade from the madness of the sun, just like the politics of the throne, the madness of human greed.
DRULIO
[Looks around and runs through the trees]
What child wilt not grow up in his own created world, where he sweats and till the earth for his own bread and do not suffer the tax man’s laws.
DRULIO
[Took a stick from a ground and acts like he is fighting another tree]
Here where a man wilt not pay for the king’s war, a war we do not know why we are fighting, a war that hungers man and will not stop.
DRULIO
[Looking at himself]
Strange all this worries come out of me here. The peace here chases my demons.
DRULIO.
Am I a king now? Aye, I am a king without subjects, without slaves. I will call this land, my land “Eradregon”- The land of dreams and I will rule over it.
Enters the palace and saw a throne, a king’s attire with a golden crown by the side of the throne, wore it and sat on the chair.
DRULIO.
Where will my subjects come from? The passersby, I must lay a path and bring many to my land who comes next wilt be my minister.
Before he could finish Madrio came in with tattered clothes.
MADRIO.
What is this place; o I am now two people I foolishly talk to my self?
DRULIO
Who dares enters my palace standing on his nobleness wilt thou crouch to reign thy greetings or thy height be removed?
MADRIO
I am no noble sire, I am but a simple peasant banished from my village. Greetings king... I do not know thy royal name sire, I beg thy high station so send thy name to the rot of my earth.
DRULIO
I am the immortal king Drulio of Eradragon and this is my kingdom. I have no minister no subjects and I have no lords nor ladies.
MADRIO.
I know my king I have heard tales of thy greatness, how you use the two giant swords to defeat a whole Army.
DRULIO.
Come to my feet, humble Madrio let me return thy kind words. I king Drulio by the power of Eradragon’s crown name you my Minister.
MADRIO.
Good lord, I am lifted from a peasant. I have a family my king, just a day’s ride I will bring them here where I am a Minister and a king’s subject than where I am a peasant and a slave to tax.
DRULIO.
You are Minister together we shall rebuild Eradragon from the ash to its formal glory.
MADRIO.
Yes my king. I will return anon with my family.
DRUILIO.
Go Minister, and return.
EXIT MADRIO
The Next Day-MORNING.
Druilio had trudged through the land and discovered so many things treasures, stored food and tools of war. He locked up the Treasury and held the key in his person. Madrio returned with his wife Sarah and his two sons Anthony and Driah and his daughter Martha.
ENTERS THE GATE AND RAN TO THE PALACE.
MADRIO.
O my king, my great king I have returned.
ANTHONY.
Father, you told us right.
DRIAH
Anthony, look it’s a fruit tree, this place is magical.
MARTHA.
O mother we can go the stream anytime we want. The air is free.
The king approached them from behind.
DRUILIO.
You’re welcome my loyal Minister.
DRULIO.
O it’s the king.
All four of them bow them on a knee.
DRULIO.
Sarah, Martha, Anthony and you must be Driah. Wonderful children, you may rise.
Murmurs amongst themselves as he speaks to their father.
ADRIAH.
He speaks like an immortal that he is. He is nobler than King Dastan.
SARAH.
My dear Adriah keep sush, do not speak that way about your king.
MARTHA
More nobler than King Dastan, he embraced our peasant clothes.
ADRIAH
King Eradragon is my king now. He is the one who will free us from the shackles of Dastan’s war, politics and tax you’ll see.
ENTERS DRULIO AND MADRIO
MADRIO
Your father will take you to his quarters, eat and bathe we shall build this town together.
