Here he is empowered as a slave and shows superiority over his adversaries, he shows equality and acknowledges that anyone can be powerful no matter how low your station is. Dog men and their mean women, here represents both the master and his wife share the same temperament.

He expresses his dislike for the people around him and tells that they can’t even hide it even if they tried. He consoles himself by saying he needs a rose in his garden bower.

He is very common with imagery and refers to people as royal babies and likened them to a precious stone that is rubies. Here he admires the times when a slave will be king and royalty won’t only be a king’s blood or family. These lines are simply painting a political picture and the suffering of the masses.

Here the singer speaks of the lies of politics and deceit that politicians speak in order to bring them into power and they do this by drawing you into their world.
In the following line he speaks of the afterlife as a severed garden and further buttressed his point by “comes death in a strange hour unannounced, unplanned for”

He went further again, speak about the dead. Here he means even in sin you are buried as a holy man when you die.

Here he examines the freedom from vanity, from money and fancy dresses and lay preference on it compared to this earth.

In the last part he says it all by referring to the afterlife as a giant family to the earth as a feast of friends.
